As you can see the website of XBian is back online. Our latest update pulled many visitors to the website and made it resource hungry so the webhost disabled it to calm down. Since we fixed some resource hunger items, we are allowed to continue our services. As you can see our new optimisations to make that possible broke some things that will be fixed as soon as possible. We believe even our broken website is better than none enjoy browsing while we fix the last few problems.

update: We used the downtime plus the optimizations as opportunity to change the frontpage. As you can see the news is much better visible and as a big plus the crew is able to post news much easier. This enables us to post longer, better and more often. If you have a briliant (or just good) news tip: please let us know in the forum. We may decide it’s frontpage worthy so you can share it with thousands of visitors.

Regards, XBian webteam

[no_toc][/no_toc]After two months of massive coding, we bring you the fifth alpha version of XBian 1.0!

From the development point of view XBian 1.0 Alpha 5 took the most man hours (we’re awaiting feminine team members). We’ve completely rewritten xbian-config and created a custom implementation for an animated splash. We also welcomed a new team member specialized in python under the name of belese (and sadly had to say goodbye to Hexagon). Belese worked hard on a xbian-config port inside XBMC. XBian can now be fully customized inside XBMC (currently only supported under the Confluence skin). Last but not least, we’ve finally included XBMC v12 final. A lot of improvements in both the Raspberry Pi firmware and the XBMC software make Alpha 5 notably faster than Alpha 4.

All questions, bugs or fixes can again be posted on our forum, you can also come celebrate with us in our IRC-channel.

An important notice

Due to the new firmware, all packages from pre Alpha 5 have been removed from our apt-repository. Would you in any case want to use older XBian versions, you can’t update through our apt-repository because it will, in any case, update all packages to newer versions.

Fresh install

You can download a fresh image from the download section (you can also download it straight from the Windows installer).

Updating

Connect to XBian using SSH (tutorial: here), login as ‘xbian’, password ‘raspberry’

Exit xbian-config through ‘Return’ and run the following commands:

sudo su
apt-get update
apt-get install xbian-update

Changelog
